How to create a server?

Post by Draise »

Hello all!

I am starting to setup servers with trueServe7.61.Beta 8 Standalone, but with no success.

I would love to use my rendernodes and other computers to model with coworkers to discuss concepts, design, etc in 3D spaces here at work.

My platform is Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit

Switcher: TP-link 1000m/bs

I installed it nicely enough, followed the quick start with the manual I found here in the forums, and tried to start up the server.

Image

Once it did, it made the shared space node, but the shared space node did nothing. It has no attributes and it only opens up the Netview and it contains no information nor options.

Image

Now in the Server view, I don't know how to log onto my own server to edit the spaces or find adresses and port to have clinets log in.

Image

I read the manual and it said there are some port setting in the registry. I looked in my registry, and they don't exist.

So problems:

1. New spaces have no attributes in the nodes and show no options to customize
2. I can't logon to my own server because I don't know the port number nor address I should use to see my server and shared spaces in the server editor

Image

And sometimes the commands I can use or write don't do anything in the cmd line view.... Does this software work in Windows 7?

Is everything working as it should? How do I get it working on my system?

This cool collaborative feature would be great to know how to use if it worked....

Any help or updates would be greatly appreciated, and I'll maybe host some spaces.

Ok, found the network nodes that open up the shared spaces and it's properties, and how to configure ports and other things. But now I just need to find a way to connect to my own server....

Found these settings. So... I assume if I want to access this space "TestSpace" then I write in //192.168.1.102/1109 ??? And if I want to access this server I write //192.168.1.102/2001?

So far I have had the option where it's waiting for the ID but fails.

YUS. ok, I can log into a quick started server. The IP with the port listed in the space made it work.

But I STILL can't log into the server manager, neither from trueServe nor TS..... How do I get into the Server Manager?

Oh, 7.61 doesn't have VOIP. Ohwell..........

So, it's collaborative, but limited. Again, the concepts of trueSpace shine, but fail in the real world. One day, when I'm rich... when I'm rich.

if you want to login to server manager , but havent yet set any authorize server in the network management node , you still have to put something in both the Login and pass in the server manager panel.

when you set up an xls file then the login name and pass and admin keys will need to match for a login to work.

sometimes as well its good to check in taskmanager to see that there is only one process running for trueserve , ( there is a bug where for some reason the tServe thread doesn;t exit when the server is closed ) and when its reopened the fresh tserve is unresponsive to logins and downloads of ctx.

Hope this helps a bit , its been a lonnnng time since my tserver days for caligari.

best regards

Woah thanks! That worked. Now I just need to figure out how to make new spaces, but I think the manual has that information (I didn't read it cause I couldn't even get up to that level, but now good.) Thanks. A very fun little feature.

Would anyone like me to host a site? If so, how would you all join?

hi Draise, good to see that Cayenne got you up and running. The xls file is important if you don't want people deleting everything.. I could never find a free program to make them that worked.. you need a microsoft product and not an earlier version that the one used by caligari.
if you post your address we just login, it's been awhile don't remember specifics. One thing is to get a address that doesnt change, froo did that just look at the old posts.

It would be nice to have a place to interact with other TS members in a 3D environment. Hope it happens! Cheers.

Like so many other things trueSpace, trueServe is unfinished. I think there are newer technologies now anyway.

It's pretty fun but there are limitations; I think a scene has to be smaller than 4 MB. It's good to discuss ideas and drop '3d sketches' into the space for comments.

Sounds awesome! I will host something. I think I won't have a 24/7 server yet, as I am about to move homes. But I will try host one here from work and see how it goes. And I'll start with a low poly count scene.

I have a question tho, if I host a server through a switcher backend of the router, the fixed address maybe of all the computers?

IF YOU HAVE A COOL SCENE YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE AS A SERVER, PLEASE SEND IT TO ME AND I'LL HOST IT!

Or ideas, anything will be welcome!

I have two or 3 machines connected to my router (well I did before). I hosted a trueServe server on one of the machines. I had to login to the router and enable port forwarding or something, in order to open a couple ports on the router for trueServe. So, data and communications for trueserve flowed in and out of those two router ports, 'flowing' to the computer hosting trueServe. The 'public address' that other users would see would be that router's IP address I think. But since you open up 2 TCP/IP ports, trueServe traffic is directed to those ports.
