So yeah. My wife's computer died a couple weeks ago so I brought the other one up from downstairs.
Internet connection was intermittent. So last night I got up and tried getting it working. Always worked
fine for me. So today I installed a 4-port USB card; now there is no connection. Yyyyyyeahhhh!
Then I am trying to pack my lunch and the damn phone keeps ringing; I end up leaving part of my
lunch at home.
I am tired of doodling with these old computers. I'll try to get that stupid USB 'antenna' for the wireless
connection working again but I doubt it's gonna happen.

I´m looking after my girlfriends dog this week... she´s away from home at the moment.... and guess what its
raining like a fountain......
dog needs to have is pee walk......else... if not I´m in big trouble.....

I went to MicroCenter yesterday and picked up a computer for my wife for about $249 plus tax.
That's the best option for now. This way, I get that computer back, for animation and plugin development.
I use the laptop for these purposes as well. The wireless connection where her computer is
tends to suck. It's probably the antenna, though it's a decent brand I believe: Zonet.
So, we'll have Comcast install another coax jack in that room, so we can put the router in there.
If that still doesn't work, then I'll just run a 25-50 foot LAN cable from the router, behind the dresser,
over the door, and to the computer. Much faster that way. Last night I tried installing Norton Antivirus,
which comes with our Comcast subscription. Well, it's a 145 MB download and it took 3 hours, but still
failed. So this morning I moved the computer to the router, and ran a LAN cable between the two.
That took about one minute to download then.

Well we didn't have Comcast install the coax jack; it would have looked kinda trashy. They would have had to run
a cable from the back of the house to the front, where it would be visible. So, that's not gonna happen.
Instead, I bought a 100 foot LAN cable and ran it from one room to the other, using cable holders to hold it in
place. I could only get a blue cable. White would've been better, since the walls are painted white. Good enough
though.

I had to help the Comcast 'tech' install an extra cable outlet.

They wanted to 'hide' the cable in the gutter and then drop down, and put the outlet where they could hit it by drilling from the outside.
I don't think so.

He was amazed when I pulled out my fish tape to get the cable from the attic down into the outlet box.
'Never saw one of those before'. Facepalm time.

I ran the LAN cable as well... no wireless for me, thanks.

PS awesome deal for a new computer... $249 is less than a tenth of the price I paid for a new one in 1995.

Yeah the wireless thing isn't quite panning out. The homeowner is a contractor; he does all sorts of house maintenance,
construction, wiring, etc. Comcast left us with a whole spool of coax for free, so in a few weeks I will help the homeowner
with running the coax to various rooms. I want to help, because I can learn how to do it, if and when we own our own
home someday. I think I will talk to him about running LAN cable as well, to the downstairs areas. I'm thinkin, if
we run the cable, do we really need comcast to show up, to connect the cable to a coax jack in the wall? Why don't we
just install that ourselves too? Seems kinda stupid to have them come out to do it. Anyway.
It's been a heck of a week and I'm even too tired to make some random doodle with tS or sculptris. I need a beer. A few actually.

I was a programmer for a govt. contractor. Instead of software work one day the boss said to run a cable to another office.

The building was an old missile assembly building (missile test range) with a large hangar like space in most of it. It was converted to office space by building regular walls and rooms but with no ceilings. So you'd look up and instead of a regular ceiling there was the big building's ceiling 30' or 40' above. Now hanging from that ceiling was a "tray" which made of a sturdy metal mesh "floor" and rods that ran most of the considerable length of the building. That is where the cable would go.

Maintenance said I could not crawl along the tray. I had the idea of running a remote control toy car down it with a string and then pulling the cable along with the string. Security said no radio transmitters allowed. So, we got a scissor lift (http://www.statehighlift.com/images/equipment_25.jpg" ) and maneuvered it among the maze of rooms to go up to the tray, toss the roll of cable or a cord down the tray, descend, repeat ...
