The Softimage XSI Mod Tool looks real useful.
I have version 6.1 for Windows XP and version 7.5 for Windows 7. Both support several popular modeling formats and I've started to play around with both for use in making models and props for Activisions Battlezone 2 Combat Commander. I mostly use the direct-X exporter for animated models, but the tool can also export static OBJ and Ogre meshes and skeletons with a 3rd party Ogre exporter. It's XSI exporters support version 3.0 and up, so anyone needing to use the XSI format may find it useful as it can also import X, 3DS and OBJ models. I find it easier to use then Studio Max in that geomtry shapes don't need to be converted to editable meshes before hand. The animation editor is fairly easy to learn as well. PS: It can also import and export FBX via Croswalk as well as Biovision, IGES and a couple of other formats. It also has LWO exporter called Oven Point? It's definately worth using as a supplemental application to Truespace. There's also support for VB, JS, and Python scripting. Cheers, Leroy.

Interesting that there is a free version of XSI 7.5 for gaming out there.

the mod tool costs a lot of money !
WHY ? because time is money and it takes quite some time to learn...
I downloaded it some time ago and it sat on my harddrive for some time....
I had a bad harddisc crash and it was gone.. never installed it back..
I guess I need 100 lives to get into each and everything..
as a converter it can be usefull though....
I know why most of the people dont give up on Truespace....
its just a pain to start from scratch !
Its a good tool though ! Be warned though that its another big package to learn..

YEAH! I wish I didn't have to sleep or eat either, nor get tired, life forever, that would be awesome!!
I know how to use XSI 7.5, as I learnt that through work. Now I'm in Softimage 2013, and it's very similar, just more stable and powerful. But yes, it's a hard software to learn, though I did learn it faster than I could with blender or maya..... But I guess one has to be wise what they learn.

Yes it's a free standalone demo version of now Autodesk's Softimage XSI. Just do a web search for XSI Mod Tool and you should find a download link on Auotdesk's web site. 7.5 is the latest and I believe last public release. There's also support for the Cryengine in version 7.5. I use 6.01 for XP and 7.5 for Windows 7; both are 32 bit applications btw. You can find version 6 on Mod DB btw. I have the ogre plugin hosted on my modeling forum if anyone has a use for it. I'm guessing XSI plugins written for version 6 and up will probably run in the Mod Tool as the Ogre plugin was originally written for Softimage 6.Draise wrote:This is for softimage? True Rayman, it is far more complicated the Truespace, but I've been working with both GMAX and the Mod Tool and Softimage has a much more user friendly interface then Max. I mostly use the Direct-X import export functions and so far am quite pleased with the results.RAYMAN wrote:the mod tool costs a lot of money !![]()

Draise, if you have a full version of Softimage I would definately use that over the Mod Tool btw.
