Hmm, Youtube is owned by Google.

What other video sites similar to Youtube are there and which would you recommend? What about Vimeo? That one seems popular.

There is vimeo......I use it too and its pretty good..

I sometimes also use google with the video filter on....... you get the whole web......and almost all videos you can find on that topic....

I mean a place to put my videos, few and uninteresting though they are.

Vimeo is a good place... a lot of the tuts for 3d coat are there and they play back very well.

i was searching for some a long time ago. I seeked for most libarate, supporting HD, user friendly... and sadly I found out, that youtube is the best. Nothing better and free outthere.
I liked vimeo, but I escaped from there. Once I had some problem and wrote to support forum and posted link to my channel. I had some replays cut from two cameras from simracing (rFactor). They deleted ALL my videos (incl.those which was NOT a gameplay-which is forbidden- and violeting any stupid rules.). So deleting videos that were ok in any way was too much for me.

Good that Vimeo enforces its rules but bad they do it in such an unfriendly way.

I put my videos on my personal site but Youtube or Youtube-like places would be good for showing animations I hope to make and those places provide the nice player and organizing features.

If there is no suitable alternative I might stay with Youtube ... or just keep my vids at my site. I probably don't want to do anything against Vimeo's rules so maybe I'll try them.

i use vimeo and it's great. there is loads of good stuff to watch and it's easy to upload video!!!!!!!!!!!!!
