Hola Amigos
So, I have been a way for a long time, but for good reason. I did start a job in January of last year and really needed to focus on it. The reason being it was a CAD design job and I had to learn Solidworks, and boy, it is awesome. I have not used anything like it. Very easy to use and does very, very precise work, which is its intent. So with that said, I hope, hope to get back to doing some work. I did mange to patent a particular type of foundation vent, and I am trying to sell it, which is not going well. I do hope everything is well with you guys.

Not really. I have done much more complex drawings, and the model was not that difficult either. The one feature that Solidworks has that is just nifty, is mates. How you put your parts together. Makes life real easy.

Re: Hola Amigos
same reason I love Moi 3d for!
Solidworks is basically Moi 3d on steroids......only problem with Solidworks is
the price tag !
What solidworks has more to offer is a very deep construction history and you
can alter everything on the fly after youve done it !
Polygon modeling for technical objects is much more time consuming..especialy
if you want to make use of booleans very often!
Sketchup is a tool inbetween poly and cad.. but more oriented towards architekture....
If you want to build trains etc.... nurbs or cad is the way to go !

Re: Hola Amigos
What I like about Solid works, is there is no boolean operations, like in TS. You want to cut a hole out, you draw a sketch on the object, then do a cut extrude. As well there are no faces, because it is a solid model program, but you can export your model out to a traditional format.
I like how you can stick stuff together. You can make a fully poseable robot all with the mates system. Gears, hydraulics can all be mated to work properly.

Even mating are basically boolean operation and cutting also only they dont feel like boolean operations......... poly modeling isnt fun with technical objects....rjeff wrote:What I like about Solid works, is there is no boolean operations, like in TS. polygon modeling is good for organic shapes but even then its better
to use t splines because they can be tranformed to nurbs and then cut afterwards...
patch modeling is more the way to go with polys... but I simply dont like poly modeling very mmuch

Rjeff! I hope your vent works out well and you earn money from it.
