It's a tool used in a hobby, mostly indoors.
And it is not an attachment for any other tool.
It's not used for probing anything like really, I promise!

To paraphrase Bitkar: you can use the screw threads to attach anything in there.

The object that attaches into the back isn't made of metal. But the rod itself is made of aluminium or stainless steel.
