I'll list out options and tell me which ones are closest...

1) A tool used in a hobby
2) Used around food
3) Used to measure something temp, ph, air flow etc
4) Used inside
5) Used outside
6) I only need one of these
7) Used in the medical field (sometimes a rectal exam... )
8) You shoot it into the air (rocket, arrow, lawn darts etc)
9) A toy
10) A gizmo

It's a tool used in a hobby, mostly indoors.
And it is not an attachment for any other tool.
It's not used for probing anything  like really, I promise!

To paraphrase Bitkar: you can use the screw threads to attach anything in there.
...But not necessarily a brush.

I'll guess it is for modeling things with clay.

Something tells me it has to do with knitting.

is it some kind of holder you stick to a flower pot or something and you screw in there some support for a plant or whatever is needed, LED strip :D Idk.

btw: you said its not made out of metal... is that important for its function? Can it be made of metal? I guess it must be plastic, but the threads look metal, so they are just inserts?

The object that attaches into the back isn't made of metal. But the rod itself is made of aluminium or stainless steel. ;)
