I have noticed that the Background Help panel can open unexpectedly with the previous short cut (I + LMB drag in empty space)

You mean this is stopping the Ctrl + LMB add to selection in Point Editing Mode
I only tested Object selecting.
Thank you for finding this!
Changed the gesture to RMB + Drag which is much better being that it does not have an additional keyboard key.
I like your concept better!
I was too lazy to add the command that closes the toolbars to all of those icons!
