A spinthariscope is a device for observing individual nuclear disintegrations caused by the interaction of ionizing radiation with a phosphor.
When I was a kid someone showed me this device. When you look into it (after 15 minutes of darkness for your eyes to adjust) this is what you see...

never seen it before... so its hard to guess, when you are not aware of its existence. Its nice tho, now i know something more.
It sounds superscientific, but its just glowing phosphor, which i think everybody had some glowing thing made from it :)
