Why are professional TV and movie cameras so big?
Why are they so big? Photos of journalists and movie sets show cameras that must be supported on their shoulders.

I think nowadays they are getting smaller, arent they? But usually its good to have more support and heavier thing, because of stability during operation. Hand is shaking, body is not. And heavier thing have more inertia, so it doesnt inherit so much motion from the shaking hands.

My take on it would be the lenses.... photojournalists and news cameras need a steady platform and long range zoom. Lenses are getting lighter with composite materials but the size of the installation is still pretty big.

Nah! Thats not the reason..they have old equipment mostly..and they dont want to use smaller for 2 reasons ..one people dont take you seriously with a small camera.. and two..its steadier with a large one! But in terms of quality any small Red can do the job perfectly well!!
