Image Planes for Modeling

Post by clintonman »

I got an email from someone asking how to do image planes. I referred him to some Caligari videos but I couldn't find any for workspace. Here is a video tutorial for making image planes from scratch in workspace.

Wow, cool, tutorials on shaders are great! It is complicated, but powerful. Thanks for this. I didn't realize you had to pull the UV to apply the image, now it all makes sense. I kept on using this default texture constant shader, never understood how it worked. More of these tutorials would be gold!

What can the other information from the shader-input do?

All sorts of things I guess. It's covered in chapter 5 of the manual and you can search the internet for HLSL and pixel shaders for background material. The limitation I found is that the vertex shader can't see uv values so you can't use a texture to drive a displacement.

The "Day/Night Earth" object is from an old 3dbuzz tutorial for Maya's node editor. It uses the Eye direction. light direction, normal and texture coord inputs to create the effect. It only works well with one light in the scene.

Thank you for this clinton.... it also servers as a stark reminder that forums rarely allow us to hear such a fine speaking voice.
