Just bored and drawing conceptual stuff = subject being the AC-130 gunship used from Vietnam until present.

The AC-130 is a good place to start James. Deadly lil aircraft ain't it?

There are so many variations of the C-130. The H model gunships are the same air frames used in Vietnam and Afghanistan (just different outfitting armament, capabilities, etc).

One could spend a lifetime just modeling the variatons.

That was my point; that airframe's been around for Ages and still useful/lethal.

As a legacy frame it's starting to reach the end of its useful life, they're extending it by selling to civvies but before too long it'll become cost prohibitive

AC-130s certainly are becoming obselete fast, not as a concept but as an airframe. There was actually talk of replacing the 130s with the new C-27s for the job...
