Gimp modification

Post by RAYMAN »

Hi Guys!
Just wondered if someone has messed with Gimp coding in the past ?
A widely wanted feature would be to clone across multiple layers at once. !
For some reason apart from Affinity Photo none of the existing apps can do that
Not even the full version of Photoshop !
Main goal ist to make seamless textures.. dif... bump.. normal on each layer but cloning at once !
The action recorder of Photoshop doesnt remember the clonestamping !
would that be possible ???? Any help appriceated ! :worship:

I don't know about coding plugins but you can use the clone tool to clone from any layer (just control select on the desired layer) and Filters -> Map -> Tile Seamless functions to create tileable textures.

If you need to clone from multiple layers, you can't clone from layer groups unfortunately although that would be a pretty cool feature if they ever implemented it.

I feel like if you're working with textures for 3D maybe it would be easier to just make the diffuse textures and then bake the bump maps in Blender for example.

its exactly the clone from layer groups i want to have !
Its such a basic thing in 3d I wonder why its still not implemented !
I use scanned material for every chanel so faking the bump or displacement isnt an option !
It needs to use all layers at once !
Im sure that its possible to change the code in that way !
Since Gimp is open source..and the sourcecode is available and its just one feature..!
Ill try my luck here in Paris! There are a few Gimp users and a few good coders here..

As MikomDude said, probably is not possible, yet...
Maybe, Gimp 3

At the bottom of the page, in the above link, there is a link to several python scripts for layers and a seamless helper too
Maybe helpful, maybe not, but maybe a start to create your own python script
