Save material
Help! How do you save your material into the Vray Material library? I've got the material set how I want it but I can't work out how to save it. I have the Vray Material library up, right click inside it to get the menu but 'insert' is greyed out. I've tried all sorts but can't seem to save my material. Could someone enlighten me please as I'm all out of ideas. Thanks.
Re: Save material
In Model or Workspace, select your object and Insert As - VRay Material

Re: Save material
Ah! Have object selected. That's what I was missing. I assumed it would save it from the Material Editor. So if I have a model with several paints applied I'd be better of painting a simple primitive for each colour and saving those to the library. A small workaround.
Super, thank you.

Re: Save material
That's an interesting question. If object has multiple materials which one gets saved? The first one, the last one, all of them?

Re: Save material
I'm not sure and haven't done enough testing to claim this as fact but it looks like there's some sort of hierarchy with texture maps winning over colour shaders.
I'm painting a simple primitve with each texture/shader and saving from that to ensure the right one is saved.
What's trueSpace without these quirky workarounds?

No to both questions.clintonman wrote: ↑05 Jun 2020, 14:02 That's an interesting question. If object has multiple materials which one gets saved? The first one, the last one, all of them?
Model's LW & VRay material's images are path dependent. If the path to the image is not on your computer, it will not transfer over the Bridge, and or work in Model. Note: This material comes with VRay and that path to the image is not on my computer.
Workspace's new way of saving a material's image is an RsObj. Not path dependent! Way better in my opinion!!! When crossing the Bridge with path dependent image material, the image is temporarily saved to a RS Tmp Textures folder and the Textures folder. When you close trueSpace, these images are deleted. Hence the BLACK object in Model. The solution is to save the path to the image on your computer.

Re: Save material
I was actually asking which material gets saved if 1 object has several materials.
Re: Save material
The option to save an object with multiple materials is not possible using trueSpaces user interface.clintonman wrote: ↑05 Jun 2020, 16:09 I was actually asking which material gets saved if 1 object has several materials.
Well there is but it does not work when using Model's and or Workspace's File - Save dialog.

Re: Save material
Did some tests and when doing "Insert As - VRay Material" as recommended earlier, the first material is the one that gets saved.
Did 3 tests:
1. red material saved as red material
2. added a green material to one face saved as red material
3. added a texture material to another face saved as red material
Same result if you use File Save vray material from workspace.

Re: Save material
If you open the modelspace vray material library whatever material is in the modelspace material editor is what gets saved. It's not the same library as the workspace vray library. Kind of weird and inconsistent.
