Symmetrical Modeling in tS 4.3...Any Better Ideas?>>>

Post by Krowbarh »

Am getting ready to start some modeling in 4.3....SOOOoooo...

First thing checking is how symmetrical modeling is achieved in tS 4.3....

Looking in the INSIDE TRUESPACE 4 book I see Frank says to model, then make copy, MIRROR the copy, move into place then GLUE AS SIBLING?...If that is it then what is the best way to line them up?...Is there a way in front view to select all vertices of both halves or mating faces & snap them together at once?...Then after that glue as sibling?

For the most part the modeling seems plenty adequate but the symmetrical aspect a real weak point in this old version...

OK...I have the OTHER book out...tS 3&4 Creature Creations....

It say basically same thing but use BOOLEAN ADD to join...

But same fiddly workflow...Make copy, MIRROR the copy, carefully move into place then BOOLEAN ADD...

Seems like someone woulda made a plug to do this common task...In Nendo or Mirai you just pick the face you want to mirror then click 'Mirror' and everything is done...The only thing you gotta do is make sure it's one big face with no extra edges running across but if there are you just 'dissolve' the edges...Takes a few seconds....

OK...Answering my own question here...

Seems the boolean method is cleanest but in tS 4.3 it's called 'Object Union' & at the default of 50 in 'Identity' was too flaky so went with 80 & that did it first time here practice on tapered cube joining with constrained movement on 'X' axis for line-up in fiddly fashion...

Maybe someone else will find this useful on the 4.3 as it's really FIRST THING to figger out before embarking on symmetrical anything.....

So NOW just to practice...PRACTICE so it's reflex just like any other martial art!....

I figured someone woulda hadta have made such an animal....

You will have to delete the original as it makes a whole new COMPLETE object unless you check the 'Delete Original...' in the prefs...

The plug info is here-

But...BUTT...The actual plug direct link is HERE-
