NURBS Curves and Sweep Curve for workspace

Post by clintonman »

curveAndSweep.jpg
Collection of scripts for loading curves from scn and cob files, creating curves from a polygon or point edit selection, adding and removing points from the curves and a sweep function that follows a curve path.

Script installer and documentation is here:

Update June 3 2012:

Right click on the load script will save workspace curves to cob and scn formats. I think this should work well for creating curve networks in workspace that can be skinned into NURBS surfaces in modelspace.

Update: November 2015

SVG import
supports closed curves
exports multiple curves to cob format instead of scn, so easier to get into an existing truespace scene
little bit easier to use

The curve import is slightly updated version of the SVG import script.

I update the links in the original post.

Updated the add control point script so it does not alter the selection mode or the selection tool.

I also found that it's easiest to use rectangle selection in context mode for the curves in general.

Update

option for evenly spaced points along the curve
position along the curve control - value of 0 to 1 outputs to a matrix that will make the connected object position and orient itself along the curve. Can be used to make something animate on the curve path.

Update October 8 2019

sweep path script works with rotated meshes, smooth sweep geometry and slightly improved cross section orientations along the curve

Update August 2020

SVG import works with reflection type curve path tags s, S, t, and T
now reads the single line DTD, so manual edit of some svg files from adobe illustrator is not needed before importing
installer updated to clear the recent files lists

Biggest change for this release is that it will read all curve types now.
