Bleak Orbital Terminal - WIP Part 5

Post by marcel »

Not a real WIP but just to show the new development. Here are some screen shot of the part 5 of the movie. To start this important part, I use an image of Parva to show the world. Thank you Parva for this gift. This is the starting point for the formation of a new crust that i added above the image with animated clouds. The crust appear throught the clouds slowly.

The crust is formed by assembling all the floating rocks. The crust will cover the entire city without destroying it because it is also flown in the air. There will be some pieces of land (sucked into the crust to feed its construction) that will come off the ground. But the city will survive in a new perpetual night.

Above the crust, the vegetation will spread through an important new element of the movie: the light of life. It is cool to show the vegetation to grow perceptibly. This gives a can of fresh air after all that has happened. Perhaps because spring. :D
(click on the last image to zoom the details of the vegetation, the original movie is an hd movie and the modeling need a lot of work for a better result).

thank for the comments.
To grow the plants, i use keys frame (only one at the start and one at the end). I change the size and the position (small vertical move). In other scene i use mesh too, not here. I render 2 animations: one without leaf and one with the leaf. then i use Premiere to create a transition between both animation.
For the leaf on the ground, i used physic simulation with an animated object to create a collision. Then i erase the animated object to render only the leaf and add the light instead of the object with ParticleIllusion.
For the crust above the world i use an alpha mask on the crust to simulate the disappearing in the clouds far away and add animated cloud all around with ParticleIllusion after the 3d render.
above the crust there are all the building made by centibots. I'll cover them with plants like Angkor temple and all the roots around the stones. Maybe something like Avatar, a new source of inspiration for me.

wow... small vertical moves? i take it that means you select the vertexes or faces and move them bit by bit? must have taken long!

i didn't see a link to an animation, do you have it somewhere to view?

ps. what is ParticleIllusion?

Just a vertical move of the entire object. not vertice move (too many work). the axis of the plants are on the ground. when i change the size, it simulate the grow.
No animation posted for now. maybe i can post here some small example before i post the entire part on youtube.
ParticleIllusion is a soft to create special effect on a video (post process work).
