Well here's the update I promised earlier. I think this ones a bigger clue to where I'm going with this.

The pistons are not attached at the moment. (that's the next job)

The form of the plastron (the ventral part of the carapace) of this turtle is for a female. Male have a curved plastron. It is easier to make love when the male is above the female.

Here's another update. It might not look like much but it was quite tricky to fit the bar around the shell neatly.
