Tips and Guides for Beginners

Post by LeonRegis »

Discuss here all techniques to Beginners enjoy the Shared Space too. Scripts, DX9 materials, Files, anything.
I and some others like Patti (carlpatti) are interested in learning this wonderful tool, so if anyone could help us to know what we need to learn, etc.
Post here any doubts related for the subject!

My pleasure, you're welcome! :D

yeah it's a good sized library of trueSpace DX9 shaders and materials, so it's worth grabbing while you can, saves time on building your own!

5 Silly questions:
How hard is it to setup your own server?
Do the new avatars work yet or are we still "Sorry!" game pieces?
Has the sound improved? Remember Roman sounding like a chipmunk?
How do you prevent avatars from walking through walls?
Do you still have the Halloween Thursday Night scene with Frankenstein,
spiders, pumpkins etc on file?

I plan on checking you guys out tonight if possible. (THAT doesn't sound right!)

Hey Steinie!
It is Extremely Simple to setup your own server. I will post some pics shortly if possible.
I am not sure about voice. Sound effects are fine.
Avatars and walls: Hm. I don't recall having a problem when in FPN mode with this.
I will have to see if I saved the halloween TNL scene on my hard drive. Anyone else
know for sure if they saved this? If not it can be recreated. If you do want to rebuild it
be sure to save the scene to disk.

Yeah come on out! I'll be there in Full Drag (With Bells On)
Just kiddin man!
Not sure what my schedule's gonna be tonight but I'll try to be there.
If I am not, the scene should be up anyway. I plan to keep it running
24/7.

well, i just got back now from searching the hard drives on my other computer, and I have good news and not so good news....

not so good news first...

I was wrong about having the halloween scene from the Cali meetingroom, the closest saved version I have is from 10/19/2007, it DOES have the spiderwebs, but I didn't spot the spiders, which is a bummer, or maybe my eyes missed them.... it was just starting to be set up at that point.

I will attach it to this thread below.

the good news, by the way, is that i salvaged some pretty awesome scenes for you to try out and will upload those next to another thread here in this section.

Here is the near-halloween scene 2007, best I can do on that:

If by "better" access you mean speed, then truePlay is faster simply because it has less capability, essentially truePlay is trueSpace completely stripped of all it's modeling capabilities and many other tools.

If you want to use trueSpace for it's modeling and other capabilities which truePlay doesn't have, one thing you can do is turn off the "bridge" in the trueSpace stack under the "desktop" tab there.... that eliminated trueSpace having to be constantly mindful of all it is doing on workspace side in case it has to transfer data back to modeler side, so in effect that makes trueSpace work lighter and faster online.

HTH :D

Well I visited the Shared Space last night and could see you guys have been busy! No one else was there when I dropped in. So I stole a book thinking it was about Jennifer Aniston not Angelina Jolie botox treatments!
I also checked out some scenes you made. To my dismay I became an Inca sacrifice and my
avatar is currently floating in lava. I believe this was for a good cause...1000 virgins...
Was it my imagination or did the Atmosphere change in one of the scenes while I was there? (the scene with the big black sphere that opens mysteriously)
Cool!

I think it might be a good idea to have a locked/sticky thread for announcing meetings, gatherings, club schedules etc so that users can immediately view today's planned activities. We can eventually put that information on the front page.

It will be great to get our Art Museum back.
Who is going to be the first one to design a Tavern?

Very Cool!

Hahahaha!!!!!

The sticky sounds great (and I don't mean the magazine) !

Sure we can do an art museum, good idea! and a tavern? hmmm..... we will need to work out the sit and drink scripts first, and definitely a mechanical bull!!!

Also some realistic waitresses maybe eh?

Sure lets go for it! :D
