3D Artists Reporting Back
Sat outside and listened to the neighbor's party, they had a live steel drum/reggae band.
Pretty cool but it wore thin after 4 hours.
Rich people are weird.
It started raining again and it quieted back down.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Just back from here, it wasn't all that enjoyable due to the heat index of 97F (36C).
The best part was the drive there and back in the frosty air conditioned car.
I'm thinking a jump in the lake is in order. Cross post to 'Short Term Plans'

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Feels like 97 due to humidity or actual 97 and 74% humidity? If it is the second one y'all keep that in the Enchanted Mitten, the Land of Enchantment doesn't want that. Expected 93 today both "feels like" and actual.

Burned the giant brush pile and prepped a large supply of campfire wood for next weekend's party.
Went up fast and furious due to a steady southwest breeze.
I'm now emitting a rich, smoky aroma.

Family reunion was a success.
It didn't rain, but it was cloudy and cool; at least we didn't swelter.
No broken bones, no fistfights, and only minor burns.
And I'm still emitting a rich, smoky aroma.

Nothin' but sun here. Cloudless sky. 64 degrees (f) but feels warm. The ski resorts like the snow the mountains sometimes get now. They'll have to wait this year.

Global heating. No snow here. The hottest november ever here in Sweden. I miss the snow and cold and clear sky morning like it was when I was a child. No sun, only clouds and rain, rain and more rain. Soon we can sit outside with t-shirts in november and listen to the neighbours steelband instead of going skiing.

Greetings from the sunny desert.
My view this morning. It is still snowing. 32 degrees F. Official average for Dec. 1 is 59, record 71 in 1973.
Edit: Photo was blue but scene was white. Paint shopped photo closer to eye view.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
uhhhh, What Finis?! You have snow in the desert and we don't in NYC???
That true?
We've had an overall wet year so far I think. Last two years the spring has been somehow a mess, and my plants just haven't gotten going right. Hardly any apples on a tree that usually breaks its branches from the weight of its fruit production. Beefsteak tomatoes that look more like small plum type, and rose bushes that were anemic.
I said this back in 2007 - The scientists are making a general mistake in their calculations, and their assumptions. They are leaving out the idea that things/nature changes exponentially. Their assessment that we will have major changes in the future (50, 100, 500 yrs from now) are wrong. The catalyst for this 'world change' has begun. Don't waste time waiting for 2012. That 'Big event' that supposedly will happen Dec 21 2012... it's roots have started to grow already. It's just that, the (whatever) equilibrium will snap suddenly and our dreams (or nightmares) will come true then.
Question: Who has paid somewhat attention to the weather (over a period of time, say, 3 to 10 yrs) and has seen NO noticeable change lately? Where do you live?

Well, this is more or less normal here. We get a light snow or a few most winters. Every few years we get a good one like this. El Nino's make it warmer here (one might be brewing this year). Not sure what La Nina's do. The shorter solar cycles show their effects too.
My favorite weather here is when it rains mud. Have a good dust storm followed quickly by a sprinkle ...

Well the world changes day by day and year by year.. This is fact if you don't belive me. Look at report of the earth 1million years ago.
or you could ask the Climatic Research director that step down during the probe into allegations of false reports toward global warming. Bad timing if you ask me .. isn't the world meeting soon to have talks on this matter.
Have to ask my self these questions
did he step down because of the probe and he knows he's busted.
or did he step down because he didn't want to talk in front of world leaders about the matter?
I life in New England, and although I do landscaping and snow plowing for a living. I have to say in my almost 36years of life. Things have changed but nothing I jump over aboard for.
People change, Tech changes and so doesn't the weather.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
The change of weather has no value in 10 years. It is very difficult to differentiate between natural and human action. Sometimes the values are added, sometimes the values vanish. The only value that is confirmed is the study of changes compared to human activity. 10 years is perhaps a coincidence. 100 years is a serious doubt. November was the warmest month since 1900 in France. is impressive but it also mean that in 1900, it was hotter than today (?). Difficult to have an opinion with all that we hear in the media (and movies) . The pollution is something conspicuously. Here we can get an idea of the problem because it is the reason of the change. The planet is sick, she has a fever: do not forget that we are the microbes. I hope you will have snow for Christmas in sweden.

Yes change is inevitable...
[attachment=0]Antarctic Ice Core CO2 last 150000 yrs.gif[/attachment
...but not like this (look at the last 250 yrs or so). I have a bunch of raw survey data, charts, papers, etc, etc, that show spikes of change. The highest point in the data lines is always... the present. It takes a long time for species to adapt to rapid changes in environment.
Abt 1650's+ Earth experienced what has now been called a 'mini ice age'. It lasted roughly about 50 or so yrs I think. That's just one example.
So whether it's a magnetic pole shift, or the ocean's currents stopping, or global warming, or the onslaught of a major new ice age, or little green, blue, or gray beings from other planets coming to see how their slaves/experiment/children are doing and not liking what they see, or our present god getting fed up with how his children are acting, or a planet we don't even know of yet doing it's celestial round and wreaking havoc here on Earth, or time stoppage, or the 'Takers' having to react harshly because the masses are getting too smart....
...well, if ya know tornadoes are brewing, don't ya wanna look at the weather reports to be on top of things at least, maybe even have a few boards ready to cover up the windows?? Instead of thinking, "Nahh... I'll be fine".

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Here is an example of coincidence that could be exploited by religious or film producers: the areas which suffer most from the drought will be the western U.S. and China (this is a serious and scientific confirmation). They are also most polluting areas. it is as if a superior intelligence would like to revenge...

People living in England’s most deprived neighbourhoods are most likely to suffer from the effects of pollution, according to two studies.
Environment Agency research suggests they bear the burden of air pollution, factory emissions and flooding risk.
And a Friends of the Earth study indicates one out of every two municipal waste incinerators in England are in the poorest 10% of the country.
London, England ( 51°29'51.75"N, 0° 7'47.65"W) was the site of a dense smog caused by heavy coal combustion during the winter of 1952, which killed approximately 12,000 people.
Thousands of tons of black soot, tar particles, and sulfur dioxide had accumulated in the air from the heavy coal combustion. Estimates of PM10 concentrations during December, 1952, range between 3,000 and 14,000 μg/m³ with the high range being approximately 50 times higher than normal levels at the time. PM10 is particulate matter less than 10 micrometers in diameter. Conditions for Londoners today are much better with PM 10 concentrations around 30 μg/m³. Estimates also suggest that sulfur dioxide levels during December of 1952 were 7 times greater than normal at 700 parts per billion (ppb).
England is just now catching up to todays standards

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
The Internet will consume as much energy in 20 years that humanity consume today? so if nothing is done. This would double the consumption. What to do to reduce it in these conditions?
The power of an avatar in Second Life equal to that of a Brazilian in real life.
Microsoft plans to build data centers in Siberia to cool their computers. The cold war continues.
Google built its own hydroelectric plants. The Colorado can't go up to the ocean and thanks to Google earth we can see it is right. It is not the future, it is today.
etc. ...
This message has probably consumed as much energy as using an African in a day but the consumption of Internet is not part of discussing in Copenhagen.

Arent they working on a larger fusion reactor in France right now that can simulate on a larger scale the thermal activity of the Sun? If I remember the article there are 5 or 6 countries involved and the power that is going to be generated from it will be immense.
there are two expected to be completed in teh next few year and one large one scheduled for the UK.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
The project Iter in france is the most important project than human do. It is a world project with USA, europe, russia, china and Japan! If it work, human will have illimited energy without the problem of co2 and radioactivity. I think the project need between 30 and 50 years. But it is the futur of the human. The prototype will be finished in 2018. Then the project Demo (experimental power plant) used to explore the possibility of commercial exploitation. The first reactor application may be made, probably not before 2050.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Maybee 2050 for this energy source are to late. If the arctic tundra around the arctic is melting this will give 1000 billion tons of CO2 (an estimate) to the atmosphere. I's alot. And it's already begun. It's almost summer weather here in Sweden when it should be cold instead. 15 years ago we had a winterstorm 17 november so in a couple of days nothing were working: no traffic, no public transportation worked and there were lots of people who couldn't go to work. These circumstanses seems impossible today. I miss the winters from my youth with lot of snow, cold and clear blue skyes in the winter. Nowadays it's only rain, rain and cloudly. What to do? Try to use a little energy as possible.

The tundra melts? oil industry only see the opportunity to further exploit these areas.
The arctic melts? it's a good thing to let the tanker win time.
To solve the problem, we must consume less. Due to the crisis: we consume less. Today the countries seek to boost consumption because they want to overcome the crisis. The real problem is here: how to avoid a crise AND consume less? nobody have a solution. What many do not know: the co2 need 30 years to act on the upper atmosphere. Today, we suffer the effects of our consumption of 1980. assuming that we stop all (which is impossible), the effect of CO2 continues to increase for 30 years before dissipating. If we happen to stop definitively the CO2 in 50 years (being optimistic) that mean that the effects continue for 80 years and you can swim in the sea in winter in sweden. I know what heat can do. I traveled in the desert in Arabia in August with 130 degrees Fahrenheit. The stone is hot enough to cook the meat. I fainted in the sun. if I had been alone ...

I'll consider it a "crisis" when the people screaming the loudest "It's a crisis!" start acting like it's one.

How much does he stand to earn from his carbon trading scheme?
It's green, alright, green like money.
First, they manufacture a 'crisis', and then they are right there to help sell you the 'solution'.
The Earth has been hotter than today.
The Earth has been cooler than today.
Can I do a damn thing about it?
Nope, but there's an 'industry' poised to force me to pay and pay regardless of whether it will make a difference or not.
How much carbon will be spent flying the glitterati from all over the world to Copenhagen?

Plain water vapor is far more effective than C02 at trapping heat... will they start taxing fogbanks and clouds next?
It's been 'global warming' since the end of the last Ice Age, which we all seemed to have survived without any trouble.
As for me, I'm unafraid to do my part in delaying the next Ice Age.

that is right. Even the end of the world is a buziness.spacekdet wrote: First, they manufacture a 'crisis', and then they are right there to help sell you the 'solution'.

The Earth has experienced periods of abrupt climate change (-50 to +50 degrees Celsius).spacekdet wrote: The Earth has been hotter than today.

The Earth has experienced low oxygen would have been fatal to humans. At the beginning was the atmosphere composed of CO2. Oxygen is a natural pollution which we have benefited. with more CO2, the earth regains its appearance before. every living thing has an eco-system. it adapts to change or die. Thus for millions of years. the Earth is not sick. it's our eco-system that is not appropriate for we. the Earth has experienced worse. We should not say "save the planet", we say "save us". Maybe people would be more careful. the only solution is to adapt and enjoy the live.

Why not do a mmc with global warning about subject? (no politic but artistic view) it will be different than do car, plane and other objects than 3d users do all the time. and we can do beautiful 3d images...

I agree Marcel. The earth have survived greater disasters before but the life on earth has in some way come back. The dinosaurs died suddenly because of natural changes and the earths life will contuine with or whithout us until the sun dies. Then there maybe still are som germs living deep in the earths remaining heat.
I hope that in that stage the humans have travelled to a new solar system.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
In the last 600,000,000 years there have been only two times that the co2 was this low. The average temperature is usually much higher. Of course the Earth's average temperature is hot enough to melt glass but we care about the surface parts. Ice ages, like the one we are in right now, seem to appear at intervals of very roughly 140 or 150 million years. They last millions of years with deep freeze, and defrost (like now), and other shorter term variations. There was an ice age a little before the 600 million mark too.
Don't make the mistake of seeing the somewhat smooth line as stability. There are always variations and cycles large and small, long term and short.
The co2 levels have been 1000's of parts per million and the temperature has not soared.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Our effect regarding the temperature is very very small. It can't be distinguished from "noise". The effect of co2 and most "greenhouse" gasses is logarithmic. That is, more and more change on one axis is needed to make a change in the other.
People who want to will use fear and other psychological weaknesses to gain power. A crisis, real, fake, or real but deliberately caused (how evil can you be?), is a useful tool for them. Multiple simultaneous campaigns of fear mongering are even more useful. That is nothing new and it is what is happening now.

Finis, from this Long timeline chart, its hard to see much correlation. Break it down to maybe a million or less yrs and it may be much more visible.
As for the 'mongering'... very useful tool, throughout history. Not for the masses who usually pay with their lives, but useful by those who control.
Problem, reaction, solution. Create a problem, force the sheeple (people who don't think/care about their world and thus live like sheep) to react/freak out, then offer them the solution. In other words, they create the problem to get the solution they wanted all along.
All I'm saying is, better to pay attention to what's going on and have it be nothing, than say it's nothing and then be surprised.

"they create the problem to get the solution they wanted all along" ... exactly what is happening. Such people will abuse a real problem too.
Perpetrators of fear mongering like to promote the myth that anyone who disagrees with them is uninformed, "just said that", or isn't paying attention. They need to discredit and silence opposition wherever they can.

Cross posted from Short Term Plans by order of Space Command, well, Spacekdet.
I got a combo plate. That cost two hours pay but it was good. Margo's restaurant. Most of the food is made there from scratch. The appetizer, as always, was tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa is just hot enough to make your nose run. Just right. There was guacamole made from real avocados, a beef tamale (spiced meat with chopped peppers wrapped in cornmeal wrapped in a corn husk and steamed) with green jalapeno pepper sauce topping, two chili rellenos (big peppers stuffed with cheese and covered with batter and deep fried) with green sauce and cheese topping, two cheese enchiladas (rolled corn tortilla stuffed with cheese cooked in oven) (or were they chicken?) with green sauce and cheese topping, refried beans and tea. Huge plate. I had to bring some home.

I, Mr. Finis, applied for a cleaning job through the state employment office. They conceal the name of the company until they give a referral. I got that this morning and the company is called "A Plus Girls". Yes, someday I may be able to proudly say, "I'm an A Plus Girl!"

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Got a one day, maybe a few more, job helping build a house in the mountains. Got sunburn too. I should know better. Sunblock is important. In a way I feel like a traitor because I don't want anyone to come here. Far too many people already. So I shouldn't help build a new house ... but I'm poor and need the money.
The building tech. was interesting. Big foam blocks that will be filled with concrete. Half the blocks for the basement done today by 3 people. Like playing with legos.
Several people from the area stopped to ask about the blocks. So I met, or overheard conversations with, some of the more affluent people around here. Very few of them belong here. Nice enough folks mostly but they are not people who can truly appreciate and respect this place.

Hang glider and para-glider Fly-In was fun. I just drove one truck back down the mountain. That was fun but not like other years. The truck was automatic transmission with push button 4 wheel drive, the road had been bulldozed, and the part near the highway had gravel. Some 4 wheel drive cars were up there. It was more fun when the road was really rough.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Awwww ... I missed the Independence Day Parade. I really, really, really like the Independence Day Parade. I've been waiting for it.
I thought it would be tomorrow, of course, on the 4th. Well this morning at 10 am, the usual parade time, I heard the jets fly over and knew that I had missed them. I really, really, really like the jets. By the time I got there it was over.
The nearby Air Force base has the F-22 Raptors. Before that it was F-15's. Each year they send two planes to fly low over over the street to start the parade. Last year they buzzed the street and then went up until out of sight.
My own fault. I feel bad. I cheated myself out of it. I should have checked when the parade would be to be sure. If I want to see it so much then that's not much effort. Well, punished with having to wait a year maybe I'll start being more organized and plan things better which I should do in many things.

Fireworks photos! You're sure you're not a pro photographer Mr. Kdet? Awesome with the reflections. Hope Steinie and family weren't fishing under the fireworks.
I had a good 4th. I found 25 dollar bills behind furniture, shot redcoats ... I mean red cups ... red plastic cups full of dirt, and had a great dinner and set off fireworks with family.

Nope, not a pro... just lucky, maybe.
Simply a cheap $15 tripod, + 'Night Mode' + 2 second timer on the camera.
Took a whole stack of fail just to get those two shots... can you guess two seconds ahead that a shell will burst?
Dad's birthday today... cooking dinner later... why did I pick something that takes 3 hours in the oven!?
Currently 87 F ( 30.5 C) and still climbing. Did I mention the lack of air conditioning here at the house?

Got 2 tons (2000 kilos) of used paving-stones yeasterday. My wife wants a new place in the garden to sit. What a job to put them there they should bee. I will post a photo of it when its ready. It would be much more easy with TS. I have tried to persuade my wife to do it in TS but she wasn't convinced about the idea. I must also say that I like the idea of a new spot in the garden.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Unable to reach Wild Boy Falls on Saturday. Weather was fine, roads nice and dry. I don't care much for trespassing, must respect private property of all kinds, but I did intend to walk just inside a ranch to the waterfall. Unfortunately a National Forest Road paid for with our tax money just goes to a ranch entrance and not through. Three miles of trespassing across it and back is too much.
Then I went back to the highway and around to find an approach from the other side. No luck. $15 in gas plus tire wear. Shouldn't have tried to drive up that steep hill with 2WD truck and street tires.
It was fun though and I saw a deer, an elk, turkeys, scenery, and Germans. They were in a small car asking if the dirt back road went to a certain town. I warned them about mud, rough road, and deep ruts but they went on. 25 miles to town. Hope they made it before the rain that evening.

Is that the sailing canoe Spacekdet?
Being the influential well connected citizen that I am, I was just talking with the former mayor ... after mowing his lawn. He is the manager or assistant manager of Waffle Shoppe where I often go. He said that a movie will be filming some scenes there. It is this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1440345/" . Several movies have filmed scenes here or in the immediate area. Tank Girl. Them.
Retro report: There was a Lamborghini at that waffle place a few months ago. It was smaller than I thought they were. A guy won use of it for a while in Las Vegas.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Epic ride today in the sailing canoe.
Conditions were perfect, unfortunately the video I took wasn't... seems the focus was off.
Also forgot the GPS unit so no clue as to top speed.
Lots of fun and zero gallons per mile.
In other, nocturnal news...

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
We have gone into winter quarters today. Last mowing of the grass. Garden funrniture, lawn mower and the rest of the garden items stored for the winter.
Some Polish scientist say what this winter will be the coldest since 1000 years ago because the Golf stream has wekened. Swedish scientists and I doubt.

If it was true, would require the river freezes in Paris and we can cross it on foot, as in the Middle Ages.Tommy wrote:Some Polish scientist say what this winter will be the coldest since 1000 years ago because the Golf stream has wekened. Swedish scientists and I doubt.

Re: 3D Artists Reporting Back
Back from the Cabin.
Laid up 4 cords of firewood and split a bunch of pine for kindling.
Nice fall colors, just starting to peak when we left.
Pics to follow.
Cross post to 'Short Term Plans':
Came home to a dead hard drive on the main box.
Time to do the C: drive transplant and Windows installation/upgrade boogie.
