I've started posting BZII 3d modeling tutorials using Truespace as the primary 3d modeling tool. The game supports user creatable expansion mods for those brave enough to try their hand at creating new expansion modules for BZII. The tasks include creating new models and props for the game, using DLL scripting tools to create multiplayer, deathmatch, single player missions and other specialty maps. Truespace, is ideally suited for creating X based models that can later be converted using other 3rd party conversion tools like 3d Exploration. BZII, is an older game with a dedicated group of users that have kept the game alive through public beta patches and unofficial game upgrades. Truespace, is one of only a handful of 3d modeling applications that can work with the older modeling tools required to make 3d content for the game. I've been slowly adding new 3d modeling tutorial generic enough to allow the use of other 3rd party modeling applications. The link to the tutorials is Battlezone II Modeling Tutorials using GSL and TS 7.6 and Battlezone II Modeling Tutorials using Truespace 7.6 aka 6.6 The project is ongoing and new tutorials will be added as time allows to create them.
Update: BZII modders can also use another 3D modeler called Anim8or to get models and props into BZII. Another A8 user named Raxx, fixed up an existing X exporter script and then later modified that same script to export in the Softimage|XSI model format. The XSI exporter is still a work in progress, but the current version is capable of directly loading into BZII itself.
