Forums that require Moderator approval for all posts...

Post by First Light »

Greetings,

I just realized that some of the forums here require a Moderator to review and approve each post before they are displayed. The way I discovered it was I tried to post to the "Sales" forum but after submitting my post, it didn't appear. I thought that something had gone wrong so I typed my message again and submitted it a second time.

After pressing the "Submit" button on the duplicate post, I stopped to read the message at the top which informed me that my post would need to be approved first. Duh! I felt like a dummy and I apologize for the duplicate submission.

But this got me thinking: We all get used to the messages that pop up after we've posted a message saying that it was successful so we don't expect anything different in the special forums like the "Sales" forum where a Mod must review it first.

So, it would be nice if something else could be done that would make it more obvious that a forum requires this. For example, could the message that appears after the "Submit" button is pressed be made more noticeable---or at least sufficiently different from the regular message so that it stands out. Better yet, can the title of these special forums be marked so we all remember that they are different.

For example, the title for the "Sales" forum could be changed to "Sales --- All posts are reviewed before acceptance.". Or, maybe it could be as simple as a special icon that signifies the same thing. It will be most helpful to newbies.

Thanks.

The ProSilver and AeroBlue themes show a different symbol for Sales but Twilight does not. It isn't clear what the symbols mean. First Light's idea of changing the title of the thread is a simple easy to implement solution that would make it very clear that the thread is moderated.

Hi Finis,

I didn't realize that some of the different themes have extra differentiation for the forums. Yes, I am using the "twilightBB" theme. It was the default when I first joined and I like it the best. Now I'm curious what everyone else is using. Time for a poll...

Hi FL.

Sales is moderated cos i think its important have control about what that section is offering. With this i talking about you can sale textures , shaders, models, plugins.. etc.. but no Viagra or even your soul. :bananadevil:

Now inside Sales there's a Non moderated thread for questions. SALES Q & A.

You can add all your questions that you have about the products offered inside SALES.

Cheers :)

Hi Prodigy,

Thanks for the reply. I'm in 100% agreement with you that it is a good idea to moderate the posts before they are allowed in the "Sales" forum.

The reason for my original post was to make this distinction more obvious so visitors and newbies will immediately see that the "Sales" forum (and others like it) are special and have an extra level of moderation. That way they won't get frustrated when their posts fail to appear immediately and they don't understand why.

One way to insure that everyone sees the difference (regardless of the forum theme they are using) would be to note which forums are moderated in the forum title.

Good decision by Prodigy on moderating the Sales section, there's already spam there for approval... heh.
